Since the beginning of our world, the dragons were. Where exactly they came from has been the matter of endless speculation on the part of scholars, as even when they were among us the dragons were not keen on revealing such intimate secrets.
Of course, many mythologies offer their own definitive descriptions of how they came to be, the most common of which being that they were placed by the gods to protect this worlds energies from the forces of darkness.
